Wendy Child, MSc
For many years, Wendy Child has been listening to and learning from focus group participants from all walks of life – teens with deployed military parents; first responders and Lower Manhattan residents after 9/11; breast cancer patients exploring complementary and alternative medicine; employers concerned about hiring workers with disabilities; physicians responding to data about ovarian cancer treatment protocols, and numerous others. Her private focus group consulting practice supports many national health and social marketing programs sponsored by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), National Institutes of Health (NIH), University of Maryland School of Public Health, and other government agencies, universities, foundations, community organizations, public relations firms, and pharmaceutical research companies.
Wendy’s personal moderating style is rooted in her undergraduate background in anthropology and interests in family therapy. Following this, a graduate school internship at NIH opened up the world of social marketing and the application of commercial marketing and advertising techniques to health, environmental, and social issues. Post-NIH, and nearly a decade with a private public relations firm, she turned full time to managing focus group research, helping clients choose locations, recruit participants, and moderating groups to gauge audience knowledge, attitudes, behavior, and reactions to concepts, messages, and programs on myriad subjects.
