One million Hispanic women have been diagnosed with osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a disease characterized by low bone mass and structural deterioration of bone tissue. This disease makes the bones fragile and increases susceptibility to fractures, especially of the hip, spine and wrist. Some Hispanic women have osteoporosis but do not know it. The fractures caused by osteoporosis are painful and may take a long time to heal. Also they can limit a person’s capacity to work and stay active.
